Hiroshima Day 2026 Marks 81st Anniversary

Hiroshima Day is observed on 6 August 2026 to mark the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima by the United States in 1945. The day commemorates the victims, honours survivors known as Hibakusha, and reinforces the global commitment to peace and nuclear non-proliferation.
The 2026 theme is “Remembrance, Responsibility, and Resilience.” On 6 August 1945 the uranium bomb “Little Boy” killed an estimated 70,000–80,000 people immediately; total deaths reached about 140,000 by year-end. The day highlights long-term health, psychological and social consequences and the continuing need for nuclear disarmament.
