Haiderpur wetland recognized as a Ramsar site

  • The Haiderpur Wetlands, located about 10 kilometres from Bijnor in west Uttar Pradesh, have been recognised under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of 1971.
  • The wetland was formed in 1984 on a floodplain of the Ganga on the Madhya Ganga Barrage and is located within the Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Uttar Pradesh now has Ten Ramsar wetlands as a result of this.
  • Along the Ganges, wetlands have been recognised as a model wetland under the Namami Gange, which has a central head, as a result, the number of Ramsar in Uttar Pradesh has now increased to nine.
  • According to the Ramsar Convention, wetlands are land areas saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally. Inland wetlands include marshes, ponds, lakes, rivers, floodplains, and swamps. The coastal wetlands include saltwater marshes, estuaries, mangroves, lagoons, and coral reefs. And, human-made wetlands include fishponds, rice paddies, and saltpans.
