·       Fumio Kishida, who leads the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has won the race to become Japan's prime minister, making him the next prime minister.

·       Former foreign minister Fumio Kishida defeated Taro Kono, widely considered Japan's most popular candidate.

·       If the extraordinary session of Japan's parliament will be held on October 4, he will become the country's 100th prime minister.

·       Kishida is going to replace the party's outgoing leader, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who is stepping down after serving only one year.
