EU Launches Biometric Entry/Exit System for Non-EU Citizens

Published on: October 11 2025 Share on facebook

The European Union (EU) will implement a new biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) for non-EU travelers, including Indians, Americans and Britons, across the 29-country Schengen zone. First-time visitors must scan passports, provide fingerprints and submit a facial photo, while return visits require only a facial scan. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints. The system stores travel data digitally, replacing manual passport stamping and aims to enhance border security, prevent illegal migration and enforce the 90-day short-stay rule. EES applies only to short-term visits, with no additional registration cost, and its phased rollout continues through April 2026.
