Anju Bobby George wins World Athletics Woman of the Year Award

  • World Athletics has honoured legendary Indian athlete Anju Bobby George with the Woman of the Year Award for her work in developing talent in the country and advocating for gender equality.
  • George who is a former international long jumper from India is still actively contributing to the sport.
  • She founded a training academy for young girls in 2016, which has already produced a world U20 medalist.
  • Anju, who is from Kerala, is India's only medalist at the IAAF World Championships (Paris, 2003), as well as a gold medalist at the IAAF World Athletics Finals (Monaco, 2005).
  • Jamaica's Olympic champion Alain Thompson-Hera and Norway's Karsten Warholm have been honored with the World Athlete of the Year award at the World Athletics Awards 2021.
