Ace mountaineer from Uttarakhand becomes first woman president of Indian Mountaineering Foundation

  • Harshwanti Bisht, a well-known mountaineer from Uttarakhand, has been elected chairperson of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), the country's largest mountaineering institute.
  • Harshwanti is the first woman to be elected president of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which was founded sixty-three years ago. She received 60 votes out of 107 casts.
  • Bisht, who completed a mountaineering course at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi in 1975, was awarded the Arjuna award for scaling the Nanda Devi peak in 1981.
  • She was also a member of an Everest expedition crew in 1984.
