· The day supports and protects the linguistic identities of people who are deaf as well as other users of sign languages.
· Announced by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) this year's theme - 'We Sign for Human Rights' - projects "How each of us - deaf and hard of hearing people around the world - hands together to promote recognition of We have the right to use sign languages in all walks of life.
