World Red Cross Day 2026

World Red Cross Day is celebrated on May 8, the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross Movement. The 2026 theme is ‘Keeping Humanity Alive’, emphasising compassion during conflicts and disasters. It honours millions of volunteers and workers who provide humanitarian aid worldwide. Guided by seven fundamental principles — Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, etc. — the movement delivers disaster relief, medical aid, and support in crises. In India, the Indian Red Cross Society plays a key role in blood donation and emergency response.
