World Asthma Day 2026 Observed

World Asthma Day 2026 was observed on May 5 with the theme “Access to anti-inflammatory inhalers for everyone with asthma – still an urgent need,” announced by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA).
The day highlights the need for better access to essential controller medications like inhaled corticosteroids to reduce inflammation, prevent attacks, and lower hospitalization risks. Over 260 million people worldwide suffer from asthma, with around 450,000 preventable deaths annually. In India, pollution and limited access worsen the burden. Experts emphasize using combination inhalers for long-term control and urge governments to improve availability and awareness of proper asthma treatment.
