Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Suresh Kalmadi passed away in Pune at the age of 81.
A prominent political figure from Pune, Kalmadi, represented the city several times in the Lok Sabha.
He served as Minister of State for Railways from 1995 to 1996 during the tenure of Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and presented the Railway Budget in 1996.
Kalmadi was also president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) from 1996 to 2012.
