The United States has confirmed it will supply Pakistan with AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) as part of a new phase in defence cooperation following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Washington. These Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles feature fire-and-forget capability, allowing pilots to launch and disengage while the missile autonomously tracks and destroys targets. The C8 and D3 variants offer improved range, accuracy and resistance to electronic countermeasures and will be integrated into Pakistan’s F-16 Block 52 fleet. This move signals strengthened strategic ties between the US and Pakistan and is expected to significantly enhance Pakistan’s air combat capabilities.
