Telangana Tops UPI Transaction Intensity

As per the RBI Bulletin, Telangana leads India in per capita UPI transaction intensity, followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, and Maharashtra. Using PhonePe data, the study highlights frequent low-value payments and strong digital adoption. Southern states dominate India’s digital payment landscape, though urban-rural gaps remain. Telangana’s top rank reflects the shift towards a less-cash economy and advances in Digital India and financial inclusion.
