The Government of India has designated South Kannad in Karnataka as a District Export Hub (DEH) under the ‘Districts as Export Hubs’ initiative, promoting marine products and cashews as potential export items. A District Export Action Plan (DEAP) has been prepared to improve infrastructure, including storage, packaging, testing facilities, and e-commerce support for exporters. A District Export Promotion Committee (DEPC) will coordinate actions among authorities, exporters, and agencies. The initiative aims to strengthen local industries, enhance value chains, and expand global trade participation, supporting balanced and sustainable economic growth in the region.
