Making history, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), in its three-decade existence, has elected women leaders for the first time. In the elections held on August 15, 2025, in Kochi, actor Shwetha Menon was elected President and Kukku Parameswaran became General Secretary, defeating Devan and Raveendran, respectively. Over 290 of 504 members voted to elect the new executive committee. Actor Unni Shivapal is the new Treasurer, while Jayan Cherthala and Lakshmipriya were chosen as Vice Presidents. Though women had previously served in other posts, the top leadership positions had always been male-dominated until now.
