Brazilian star Neymar Jr. announced his retirement from international football after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium. The 34-year-old ended his 16-year career with 80 goals in 130 matches, becoming Brazil’s all-time top scorer.
He scored his first international goal at the same stadium in 2010 and his last in his farewell match, completing a symbolic journey. Despite achievements like the 2013 Confederations Cup and 2016 Olympic gold, a World Cup title eluded him.
