New mountain horned dragon Acanthosaura syrax described in ZooKeys on 2 August 2026.
Discovered in Mae Wong National Park, Thailand.
23rd recognised species of genus Acanthosaura (family Agamidae).
Eight specimens collected April–May 2025 from high-altitude forest (>1,300 m).
Identified via ND2 and COI DNA analysis (14–28% genetic distance from relatives).
Distinct traits: smallest neck/back crest scales in genus, no black eye patch, yellowish-green body, relatively large egg clutches.
