On June 10, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi became India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 days in office. He surpassed Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,398 days (1952-1964). Modi first took oath on May 26, 2014, and has won three consecutive terms in 2014, 2019, and 2024.
He previously surpassed Indira Gandhi’s uninterrupted tenure on July 25, 2025. On March 22, 2026, he became the longest-serving head of an elected government when combining his Gujarat CM and PM tenures. Modi is the first non-Congress leader to secure full majority and win three straight elections as incumbent.
