Maharashtra Cabinet approved the Compressed Biogas (CBG) Policy 2026 on April 22 and released it on May 5, 2026.
₹500 crore allocated for 2026-27 to set up CBG projects in every district.
The policy promotes conversion of municipal solid waste (24,500 MT daily) and agricultural residue (20+ million MT annually) into renewable fuel.
Focuses on waste-to-energy, transport & industrial fuel, and supports India’s Net-Zero 2070 target.
Projects will use PPP and hybrid annuity models.
