Kumar Shanker assumed charge as Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) effective June 5, 2026, following his nomination by promoter GAIL India Limited. With over 31 years of experience in the natural gas and energy sector, he brings expertise in gas processing, petrochemical projects, corporate strategy, regulatory affairs, and city gas distribution.
A Chemical Engineering graduate from BITS Pilani, Shanker has contributed significantly to pipeline tariff reforms, open access frameworks, unified tariffs, and national gas grid development at GAIL. Kamal Kishore Chatiwal ceased to be MD and was repatriated to GAIL. IGL is a leading city gas distributor supplying CNG and PNG to households, commercial, industrial, and transport sectors.
