  • International Clouded Leopard Day is observed every year on 4 August to raise awareness about the rare wild cat. On this day in 2026, India announced the Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan (CAP). The plan, prepared under a Government of India–GEF–UNDP partnership and unveiled at the 91st SCNBWL meeting in Coimbatore, targets habitat protection, scientific monitoring, anti-poaching measures and community involvement in North-Eastern India.
  • Both Mainland and Sunda clouded leopards are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Major threats include habitat loss from deforestation, illegal wildlife trade and human-animal conflict. The CAP identifies 14 priority landscapes and emphasises climate-resilient, community-based conservation.
