Former Union Minister K.P. Unnikrishnan passed away on March 3, 2026, at the age of 89 in Kozhikode, Kerala. He served as Union Minister for Surface Transport and Communications in the V.P. Singh Cabinet (1989-90) and played a key role in the evacuation of Indians during the 1990 Gulf War.
A six-time Lok Sabha MP from Vadakara (1971-1996), Unnikrishnan was a veteran Congress leader. Born on September 20, 1936, he studied at Madras Christian College and began his career as a journalist before entering politics.
