Centre Approves Chenab–Beas Link Tunnel Project

The Central Government has approved the Chenab–Beas Link Tunnel project in Himachal Pradesh in May 2026 at an estimated cost of ₹2,352 crore. The 8.7-km tunnel will divert surplus water from the Chandra river (Chenab basin) to the Beas river system. To be implemented by NHPC, the project is expected to generate nearly 4,000 MW of additional hydropower. It is part of India’s river-linking initiative.
