CD Gopinath, India’s oldest Test cricketer and the last surviving member of the team that secured India’s first-ever Test victory against England in 1952, passed away at the age of 96 in Chennai. He played 8 Test matches, scoring 242 runs, and contributed significantly in the landmark 1952 Chennai Test.
Beyond playing, he served as national selector, chairman of selectors, and team manager. His demise marks the end of an era in Indian cricket history.
