The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line project on 13 May 2026 at an estimated cost of ₹20,667 crore. Spanning 134 km in Gujarat, it is India’s first semi-high-speed rail project using indigenous technology, designed for 220 kmph (operating at 200 kmph).
It will connect Ahmedabad with Dholera SIR, upcoming Dholera Airport, and Lothal NHMC, reducing Sabarmati-Dholera travel time to 48 minutes. Targeted for completion by 2030-31, the project aligns with PM Gati Shakti for enhanced multimodal connectivity and regional development.
