India commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on 6 July 2026. Born in 1901, he was a prominent educationist, politician, and nationalist. He served as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and as India’s first Minister for Industry and Supply.
Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (precursor to BJP) and championed national unity, especially full integration of Jammu & Kashmir. His slogan “One country, one constitution” remains influential. He is remembered for contributions to education, democracy, and nation-building.
